The hotel was originally built in 1851 as a private gentleman's residence; it first became a guest house in 1973. The current owners acquired the house in the winter of 2003 and immediately set about a quarter-of-a-million-pound refurbishment. Today, Lonsdale House offers comfortable, attractive and beautifully appointed accommodation, as well as a guest lounge and a well-stocked bar.The hotel’s lounge is situated on the lower ground floor and guests are free to use the lounge at any time during their stay. Snacks and beverages can be provided upon request at any time. The lounge also offers a complimentary library of fiction and a number of board games for guests’ use during their stay.

The bar can also be found on the hotel’s lower ground floor. The bar offers a range of draught and bottled beers, a wide selection of spirits and a selection of soft drinks. The hotel makes every effort to ensure that the bar prices are lower than those of any of the local public houses.
