Located a one-minute walk from Lake Windermere with incredible, brand-new room facilities in all new standard, superior and luxury rooms and suites. Perfectly situated with restaurants, bars and shops also only one minute walk from the doors.
Recently taken over, this 1890s Art and Crafts period property has gone through extensive refurbishment. All new rooms have been designed to the highest of standards by a professional interior designer, creating style and taste with a homely and friendly atmosphere.
These fantastic rooms include all of, or most of, the following: 32 to 42-inch LCD TVs, goose-down duvets with pure cotton sheets, air spa baths in all luxury rooms and suites, 17-inch mirrored TVs in bathrooms with baths, DVD recorders, iPod docking stations, free internet access, designer Villeroy and Boch bathrooms, mood lighting in showers, heated tiled floors in bathrooms, bathrobes, quality towels and accessories and much more.
Standard rooms are the rooms inherited when The Cranleigh was purchased. They are phased in for refurbishment during December 2008 and January 2009. Please check the photographs of the standard rooms. Whilst not to the standard of the new rooms, they are clean and tidy and in a great location.
The hotel also offers a fantastic locally sourced breakfast using the finest produce, along with free use of leisure facilities located 200 metres away. Free parking available for up to 12 vehicles on site. They can also provide secure parking off site, free of charge. The Cranleigh is licensed to sell quality wines, lagers, champagnes and locally brewed award-winning beers.
Please note there is a strict non-smoking policy throughout The Cranleigh. Some of the standard older rooms are located in the annexe building on the same site.The Cranleigh has recently been purchased by a local family who have started to transform this beautiful 1890s property into a cutting-edge luxury guest house. The Cranleigh has refurbished 10 of its 17 rooms. These new rooms come under the headings: New Standard Double Room, Superior Double Room, Luxury Double Room and Suite. Each of these new rooms has been individually designed by a professional interior designer. The results are fantastic and set a new standard for guest houses.
The property is perfectly positioned for exploring the Lake District and is within one minute’s walk of Lake Windermere. All the shops, cafes, bars and established restaurants that Windermere has to offer are just a one-minute walk away, as are all the other facilities that the village has to offer.
There is free parking on-site for up to 12 vehicles and secure parking is available off site. The guest house has excellent leisure facilities located 200 metres off-site. Use of the leisure facilities is included in the price for all hotel guests.

The standard rooms are scheduled to undergo refurbishment during 2008. This en suite room has quality bedding and accessories and is equipped with the facilities listed below. Superior double rooms have all been custom-designed by a professional interior designer. Each room has either a double bed or a king-size bed. The rooms feature impressive modern comforts and facilities, including goose-down duvets with 100% pure cotton sheets, 32-inch to 42-inch flat-screen TVs, DVD recorders and iPod docking stations to play your own music.
The en suite Villeroy & Boch designer bathrooms feature heated tiled floors, mood lighting in shower enclosures, air spa baths and 17-inch TVs in all bathrooms with baths. Luxury towels and bathrobes and quality accessories are also included.
Please note that The Cranleigh cannot accommodate children in these rooms. The black and gold suite has been custom-designed by a professional interior designer. The room has a king-size bed with luxury goose-down bedding and 100% cotton sheets. The suite features impressive modern comforts and facilities: a 42-inch flat-screen TV, a DVD recorder, an iPod docking station, a twin air spa bath with a 17-inch mirrored TV at one end, a heated and tiled floor and a private balcony area with mood lighting. The suite has luxury towels, bathrobes and quality bathroom accessories. Children cannot be accommodated in this room. By Car (from the South and East):
- On the M6 turn off at junction 36 and take the A591 towards Windermere.
At the large roundabout take the 1st left, B5284 signposted Hawkshead via Ferry and Crook.
- Travel along this road for 6 miles, past Windermere Golf Club on the left to the junction of A5074.
- At staggered crossroad turn right. The Cranleigh is 500 yards away on the left hand side.
Directions from Scotland and the North East:
- On the M6 turn off at junction 40 and take the A66 towards Keswick.
- Take either A592 via Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass to Windermere, or continue along A66 to Threlkeld and turn left through St. Johns in the Vale to Windermere on the A591 via Grasmere and Ambleside.
- At the junction of the A591 and A592 head south to Bowness Bay.
- On entering Bowness you will see Costa Coffee on your right, turn left onto Kendal Road. The Cranleigh is 200 yards away on the right hand side.
By Rail:
- The nearest railway station is Windermere, 2.5 miles from the hotel. The main West Coast line station is Oxenholme which is 10 miles from the hotel.
- There is a National Express coach stop at Windermere Station.
- Taxis can be arranged from any of the stations or airports at an additional charge and booked via the hotel.
- If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
- If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
